- Tibial nerve
- Continuation of the Sciatic Nerve in the popliteal fossa
- Runs deep in the posterior compartment of the leg
- Motor: posterior leg muscles (gastrocnemius, soleus, tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus)
- Sensory: via medial sural cutaneous nerve (joins to form sural nerve → supplies posterolateral leg and lateral foot)
- Passes behind the medial malleolus → divides into medial and lateral plantar nerves in the foot
- Common peroneal nerve
- Lateral branch of the sciatic nerve
- Winds around the neck of the fibula → divides into:
- Superficial Peroneal nerve
- Runs in the lateral compartment of the leg and pierces the fascia mid way down
- Motor: lateral compartment (fibularis longus and brevis → eversion)
- Sensory: lower anterolateral leg and dorsum of the foot (except first web space)
- Deep Peroneal nerve
- Runs in the anterior compartment of the leg
- Motor: anterior compartment (tibialis anterior, EDL, EHL, fibularis tertius) + dorsum of foot (extensor digitorum brevis)
- Sensory: first web space of foot
- Sural nerve
- Formed by branches from both tibial (medial sural cutaneous) and common fibular (lateral sural cutaneous) nerves
- Sensory: posterolateral leg and lateral foot
- Saphenous nerve
- Branch of the femoral nerve, not sciatic
- Travels medially with great saphenous vein
- Sensory: medial leg and foot
