Inhibition of Toxin Synthesis
- Clindamycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, which includes exotoxins like:
- Streptococcus pyogenes → SpeA (streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxin A)
- Staphylococcus aureus → TSST-1 (toxic shock syndrome toxin-1)
- This makes it particularly useful in toxin-mediated soft tissue infections, where toxin suppression is as important as bacterial killing.
