- No Fifth Lumbar Arteries
- Its place is taken by the Lumbar branch of the Iliolumbar Artery (a branch of the Internal Iliac Artery)
- Ascends from the Pelvis in front of the Lumbosacral Trunk
- Passes laterally behind the Obturator Nerve and Psoas Muscle
- Supplies Psoas and Quadratus Lumborum
- Gives a spinal branch which enters the L5-S1 intervertebral foramen
- Iliac Branch runs in the Iliac Fossa, supplying Iliacus and the Ilium
- Ends in the anastomosis at the ASIS
Notes
- Passes upwards out of pelvis anterior to Lumbosacral Trunk and posterior to Obturator Nerve
- Runs laterally deep to Psoas muscle
- Lumbar branch
- Really the 5th lumbar segmental artery
- Passes laterally to supply Psoas, Quadratus Lumborum, and Erector Spinae
- Gives a spinal branch into the L5/S1 Foramen
- Iliac branch
- Supplies iliac fossa, i.e. Iliacus and Iliac bone
- Extends to the anastomosis around the ASIS – comprised of:
- Deep Circumflex Iliac Artery
- Superficial Circumflex Iliac Artery
- Ascending Branch of the Lateral Circumflex Femoral Artery
- Upper Branch of Deep Division of Superior Gluteal Artery
