- The collateral branch of the Iliohypogastric Nerve
- Both derived from the 1st Lumbar Nerve (Anterior Ramus)
- No lateral cutaneous distribution
- Only has a terminal cutaneous distribution
- Cross the anterior surface of Quadratus Lumborum
- Lie posterior to the kidney
- Pierce the anterior layer of the Lumbar Fascia and pass anterior to it through Transversus Abdominis
- In the anterior abdominal wall, it lies in the neurovascular plane between the Internal Oblique and Transversus Abdominis muscles above the Iliac Crest
- Supplies their lower fibres which are inserted into the Conjoint Tendon
- Thus, important in maintaining integrity of Inguinal Canal
- Pierces the Internal Oblique and passes deep to the External Oblique
- Emerges on the front of the cord through the Superficial Inguinal Ring covered by External Spermatic Fascia
- Pierces the External Spermatic Fascia
- Distribution:
- Skin of the root of the Penis (or Clitoris)
- Anterior 1/3rd of the Scrotum (or Labium Majus/Mons Pubis)
- Small area of thigh just below the medial end of the Inguinal Ligament
