- The forgut is different in that it has both a ventral mesentery (mesogastrium) and dorsal mesentery (mesogastrium)
- The ventral mesogastrium attaches in the midline to the undersurface of the diaphragm and anterior abdominal down to the umbilicus.
- The ventral and dorsal mesogastrium rotates clockwise - resulting in the liver ending up on the right side and the spleen on the left
- The ventral mesogastrium ends up as the lesser omentum
- The dorsal mesogastrium ends up as the greater omentum and it associated ligaments
